Whether dancing on the sides of buildings or performing on a stage, Julia Langenberg’s expansive artistic career has encompassed a diverse array of styles, companies, and locations. Julia’s initial training and performance experience began with Ballet Austin, the Slavin-Nadal School of Ballet, and the Austin Lyric Opera. After earning a vocal scholarship and graduating from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music Vocal Performance degree in 2006, she returned to her dance roots and began her modern dance and aerial career.
A wide collection of modern dance companies employed her talents, such as Sharir + Bustamante Danceworks, Ariel Dance Theater, Ballet East Dance Theater, Komo Danceworks, Release Motion Dance Project, and the site-specific aerial dance company, Blue Lapis Light. Additionally, Julia taught ballroom dance at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios and sang in the Austin Lyric Opera Chorus and the Grammy nominated choir, Conspirare.
As a freelancing aerialist, Julia performed across Texas and was discovered by World Entertainment Services in 2009. She served as their aerialist on lyra, harness, and bungee for the show “Viva!” at SeaWorld San Antonio. Soon after, she was promoted to the principal aerialist roll in the original cast of “Azul,” the new acrobatic/whale and dolphin show at SeaWorld San Antonio. Under the employment of Ôma Entertainment, Julia currently performs her innovative aerial act on silks attached to a lyra above a pool of synchronized swimmers, divers, and marine mammals.
In addition to her performance career, Julia has devoted much of her time to teaching aerial dance and bringing the joy of flight to anyone who has a desire to learn. Julia is the aerial guest artist/speaker for St. Olaf College and she has taught aerial classes at the Blue Lapis Light studio, McCallum High School for the Performing Arts, and founded the aerial silks programs at Ms. Rhonda’s School of Dance, the Fredericksburg Theater Company, the Boerne Gymnastics Center, and Hugs Gymnastics.
Julia is currently teaching ongoing aerial silks classes, performing full time at SeaWorld, and freelancing as an aerialist for various events. Cirque du Soleil has also contacted Julia several times as they consider her talents for their shows. Please contact her at Julia@JuliaLangenberg.com to book group and private aerial lessons, workshops, lecture/demonstrations, and performances at special events, corporate and private parties, weddings, and fundraisers.
