Julia Langenberg is a professional aerial performer, choreographer, and instructor, consistently performing for national and international companies for nearly 10 years. After dancing on the sides of buildings for several years as a core company member with Blue Lapis Light, Julia became the principal aerialist at SeaWorld San Antonio, where she performed for 3 years above whales and dolphins on silks, lyra, bungee/trapeze, and harness. She was an original cast member of "Azul," and her innovative aerial act is still performed at SeaWorld today.
Cirque du Soleil contacts Julia several times a year to employ her talents for their shows. Locally, Julia's aerial artistry has been commissioned by Luminaria, the San Antonio Zoo, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio Convention Center, TEDx, Nimble Arts, MOTH Poetic Circus, and Cirque Imagination. The Artist Foundation of San Antonio awarded Julia two grants this year, one for an Original Production and the second is the Tobin Grand Prize for Artistic Excellence.
In addition to her performing career, Julia built an aerial community in San Antonio, where none existed before. Her dedication to teaching, performing, and recruiting other professional aerialists to the area, led to the formation of Aerial Horizon LLC, San Antonio's only professional aerial performance company and school. Julia and her instructors teach hundreds of students every month through Aerial Horizon's regular adult aerial classes and workshops. Aerial Horizon also performs regularly for corporate, educational, and private events, including opening for ZZ Top at the Alamodome.
Julia is a graduate of the New England Center for Circus Arts, where she mastered aerial fabric, lyra, trapeze, and rope, while expanding her expertise with experience on Chinese poll, acrobatics, tumbling, sling, and an invented ground apparatus called a "halo." As a dancer, Julia performed with a variety of national modern dance companies and taught ballroom at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios. She also earned a vocal scholarship and graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. Julia went on to sing with the Austin Lyric Opera and the Grammy nominated choir, Conspirare.
Julia serves as an Adjunct Professor at Northwest Vista College, where she created and teaches one of the only college level Aerial Dance courses in the nation. She is a guest aerial instructor at St. Olaf College, Palo Alto College, Brownsville Dance Center, Trinity University, and Texas State University. Julia enjoys helping her students transform their lives by conquering their fears and fitness goals and encouraging their airborne creativity.
As the Artistic Director of Aerial Horizon, Julia and her company are known for creating innovative and meaningful art on the ground and in the air. Students from across Texas are seeking out training with Aerial Horizon's coaches and Julia's teaching and performances can be found across the country.
